Every number has a receipt.
Halves is a shared workbook for two people splitting property after a relationship ends. Record what is in the pot, attach the evidence, compare offers, and hand your lawyers a tidy pack. Calm, clear, and the same for both of you.
- Free during the pilot
- Separate logins
- Data stays in Australia
- Quick exit on every page
Three steps, no surprises
The order lawyers already work in, with the admin done for you.
- 1
Record what is in the pot
Chattels, debts, house costs, KiwiSaver. Each line carries who added it, what backs it up, and whether a lawyer has checked it.
- 2
Share the same numbers
Invite the other person. You both see one set of figures, flag what you disagree with, and keep your own private working papers.
- 3
Agree with your lawyers
Compare offers side by side, then hand both lawyers a pack with every figure and its receipt. They make it binding.
Click around before you sign in
A sample workbook for Alex and Sam, with made-up figures. Switch between them, change a line, flag one, ask Claude to check a receipt, share bank lines. Nothing is saved.
Both of you see this. Every line says where its number came from.
| Starting figure | Proposed | $100,000.00 |
| House costs paid alone | From shared expenses | -$18,000.00 |
| Half of joint card debts | Calculated | -$1,500.00 |
| Half of the chattels difference | From Chattels tab | -$475.00 |
| Figure after deductions | $80,025.00 |
This is arithmetic on the figures entered, not a legal assessment. Change who took a chattel, or share more expenses from the Private tab, and watch this update.
What you get
Settlement arithmetic, shown step by step
Starting figure, deductions, the split. Every calculation says how it was worked out, and that it is arithmetic, not a legal assessment.
Evidence on every line
Statements, invoices and receipts attach to the numbers they support. Ask Claude to read the document and confirm the figure, then a lawyer can check it. Unverified, matches document, checked by a lawyer.
Shared and private, clearly apart
Bank imports and notes stay with you. Tick the lines you want to share and only those move across. Neither person can edit or delete the other's entries.
Offers without prejudice
Each offer shows what each person and any third party would receive, and the gap between the two sides. Nothing here is an agreement.
A lawyer seat
Your lawyer sees everything shared, comments on lines, and marks what they have checked. The other side's lawyer gets the same.
A record you can rely on
Every change is logged with who and when, in a hash-chained history that nobody can edit. Export the lot whenever you like.

What Halves is not
We would rather say it plainly now than have you find out later.
- It does not tell you what you should get, or predict what a court would do.
- It does not make anything binding. That takes two independent lawyers and their certificates (s 21F).
- It does not give KiwiSaver or investment advice, and it never mixes child support into property figures.
- It does not watch you. No read receipts, no location, no record of who looked at what.
For family lawyers and mediators
A seat on your client's workbook, every figure tied to its document, a change history you can rely on, and an export pack when it is time to draft. A firm view of every workbook your colleagues sit on, the way an adviser sees their client list. Less chasing, more advising.
Questions people ask
Is this legal advice?
No. Halves is an organising tool. It explains the law in plain English and shows arithmetic on the figures you enter. Any agreement about relationship property still needs independent legal advice for each of you, and a lawyer's certificate to be binding.
Does the other person have to join?
No. You can work on your own and share a pack with your lawyer. When you are ready, you can invite the other person, and they are told what has been recorded before they decide.
What can the other person see?
Only the shared tabs. Your private area, your bank imports, your notes and your limits are never visible to them. There are no read receipts and no activity tracking.
What if I do not feel safe?
Before a shared workbook is created or joined, there are a few private safety questions and links to support. There is a quick exit button on every page. You can leave and take an export at any time.
Does AI read my documents?
Only when you press the button on a line. Claude reads that one file and says whether it shows the recorded figure, quoting what it found. It compares, it does not advise. Each check is logged, nothing is used for training, and a lawyer can still check the line afterwards.
Where is my data?
In Sydney, Australia, with Supabase. It is not used for marketing or to train AI. Workbook data is deleted 12 months after a workbook is closed unless an export or a hold is requested.
What does it cost?
Nothing while Halves is in its pilot. Pricing will be published before that changes, and nothing you have recorded will be held back from you.
